self fulfilling prophesy

So, on Monday when I wrote my last post, I had NO IDEA what this week was going to be like.  Had I known, I would not have taken the day off from running. I wouldn’t have taken the day off completely.

But I get ahead of myself…

Tuesday.  Also known as the 14 hour day.  I was at work at 7:30 am.  I stopped work for the day at 9:30 pm.  Three of the hours were spent at home, where I was grading papers the entire time.  While driving home at 9:30 I realized that there was no way I would be able to do my insanity or run my mileage for the day.

Wednesday.  Mr. Dawn and I have been going back and forth about whether we should leave Thursday after school, or if I should stay for the school’s Christmas party on Friday.  I made the final decision, which meant that I needed to finish the laundry, pack and clean the house in one day.  Oh, and I gave my first final, which meant I had more grading to do.  Once again, I was driving home at 9:30 pm realizing that running was not going to happen.

Today.  We are packed.  I am getting ready for school.  As soon as our final bell sounds, Mr. Dawn and I are hitting the road for a 10 hour drive.  Guess I won’t be running today either.  <sigh>

So, yeah.  I regret not running on Sunday.  I regret not running on Monday.  But such is life.

In the “win” column, I have an ENTIRE suitcase packed with all my winter running essentials.  Yes, it takes an entire suitcase for all the layers and warming devices it takes to do winter running.  Lets just hope that I do better on vacation than I have been doing here…

Oh I hate when that happens…one of the many reasons I hate when I procrastinate.
Have a fabulous trip though–you WILL do much better with your runs!

  • DianeJ says:

ALL I can say is YAY!!!! No snow here so there can be running tomorrow, ya know, if you want.

  • Mallory says:

I hate when that happens, but it usually sets me up for a really AWESOME run so I hope it does the same for you!

  • LindseyAnn says:

Yikes, sounds like you were busy.
Enjoy your vacation!! I’m sure you will find time to get some running in! :)

  • Sissel says:

I echo Mom – YAY! Don’t worry about your vacation running, there are five people that will be encouraging you to do it. And there are a million trials and bike paths to enjoy. Oh yeah, and bikes for people to ride beside you!

There is so much to get in the way this time of year . . . hopefully on your vacation you will have a shorter to-do list so running can work its way back to the top. :)

  • Erin says:

Aw, don’t worry about taking a few days off in a row… it ain’t no thang! You’re still in amazing shape and won’t lose anything, I promise! Travel safely today! And congrats on wrapping up the semester of teaching :)

You’ll be fine! You’re the Dawn! I mean, c’mon. I totally believe you’re going to have a a great few weeks of training up ahead :D

  • Marlene says:

Don’t sweat a few days… you’ll have even more reasons to be out busting miles on vacation now! Or you could run alongside the car? :)

  • ERG says:

I know you are stressing, but you’ll get back on track in no time!! You are a dedicated woman!! And you have BIG goals :)

Think of it as starting with fresh legs for your program. I will post soon about my training. I am having some dilemmas too. We can do it! My husband thinks I am crazy, though..hehe.

BTW I love that you had a string quartet play switchfoot at your wedding. That would have been so fun!

  • Jeez, I thought teachers had it easy? :)

  • Nicole says:

dont sweat it. your running BOSTON & its the holidays! i’m going to remind you this atleast once a week until you go! your my inspiration! xoxo happy travels

  • Lauren says:

I’m sorry you’ve had such a crazy week!! I really hate those weeks!! I know it’s probably stressful but all I can say is: try not to let it get you down. It’s one week, and it’s the holidays. You have been doing an awesome job keeping up with your training until now. I know you’ll be able to hop right back on the wagon as soon as you get the chance. And Boston is still over 4 months away, so you have plenty of time. :)

Have a safe trip!!! (and I also need an entire suitcase for my running clothes. It’s amazing how much space that stuff takes up! haha)

  • Crazy but I commented on this post yesterday but it isn’t showing up. I can’t believe you are pulling out 14 hour work days! I totally understand how awful it feels when you miss a few days but girl I know you are going to whip out some crazy awesome runs over your break no matter how cold it is:) I always have a separate suitcase specific for running gear ha!
I can’t believe you will be traveling so much!! Oh, car trips….. Your job better be paying you 3 times as much!!

  • Katye says:

  • lindsay says:

oh yes, such is life but its only one week. Now (post finals), you’ve got that extra time and hopefully some extra rest to run and have fun focusing on Boston. You got this! Enjoy the time with friends and family this christmas!
    Cheers,

It is always so hard for me to find where to comment on here but I found it this time! Sorry you’ve had so much work on your plate! Hey, i really am interested in reading the book you mentioned on ERG’s blog about Running less, running faster…I think Janae mentioned that book too but I want to hear what you think if you decide to read it. It just makes sense to me lately that you can still run a good time without putting your body through so many miles. Cross training can be a good thing and I’m interested in hearing what that book has to say about it.

Hey there! Back to the land of blogging and I’m way behind!!

So, looks like you wrote this on Thursday. I took a huge down week this week and only ran 23 miles with almost ZERO crosstraining. I start my training plan tomorrow and I am ready to go after that! The break is really going to do you good I think. It’ll refresh your mind and get you reenergized. You’ve been doing A LOT with work and that crazy Insanity business!

I’m laughing at the winter running suitcase! My hubby always rolls his eyes when we head out of town because we are gone for like 2 days and I have about 14 running outfits packed!!

I hope you have a wonderful relaxing vacation interspersed with some great quality running! Boston on the brain!!!!
