warm legs, cold hands, and a winter track session
Today was the day I finally got to test out my new winter running tights. Result? A++
I’ve been looking for a pair of actual running tights so that I’m not running in my snowboarding base layer under a pair of old sweats. True, I survived all last winter with this combo, but it’s high time I act like a legitimate runner…so I found these:
I am in LOVE! I really wanted to make sure that the pants I got were warm without being bulky, reflective, and included ankle zips. The description from the Road Runner’s website:
Prevent wind chill in the women’s Road Runner Sports Pro Velocity Windfront Tight thanks to windproof front leg panels. Feel great with muscle-supporting compression, moisture management, and secure-fitting grip elastic leg openings with ankle zips. 360º reflectivity.
Everything I wanted, and more! I love the compression, it’s not so much that it interferes with range of motion, but just enough to feel supported. And the wind panels? Genius. The material is great. I’m seriously in love with these pants. Now, if only I could make a full body suit out of those wind panels…
When we got back into town on Friday, it was 50* and raining. This was the first time that we’ve come home after our Christmas travels when we haven’t had to snow blow our way into the driveway. Usually the accumulated snow is well over a foot by now. The heatwave did not last for long, and it has lightly snowed a couple days since then. However, the major advantage to our lack of snow is that the high school track is available!!!! Just in time for me to start back with my training.
Today there were 800′s on the agenda! Most people have their favorite length of intervals, but I’ve come to love them all. True I don’t always love them during the last 100m when I’m gasping for air, but I just love the structure and focus of track work. So, after admiring the glory of my new pants, I headed out towards the high school. A mile’s worth of warm up later, I was lined up and ready to roll.
Goal: 3:17 per 800
Actual: 3:14, 3:13, 3:19, 3:15
I pretty much nailed it.
Then I ran 2 more miles to cool down and was done.
Honestly…it feels a little weird to only have one more run to do this week. And by weird–I mean I don’t have a stress headache trying to figure out when I’m going to fit in all the workouts I want to do. I used to carry the weight of my unfinished workouts around with me all day, every day. And now, I feel almost breezy about it. I know that my mileage is going to increase and I know that the track and tempo workouts will get more intense, but I must say that for my mental health this plan was 100% the right thing for me. I love the tomorrow I can go to Jazzercise and have my Insanity date with Shaun T. without feeling guilty because I’m not running.

Oooh, those tights look so nice!
Glad you liked them! And, yes, you totally nailed that track workout..great job!!
Hot! And good news all around!
Great workout!! I love those pants!! I need to find a local track to do intervals!
Love the tights!!!!!!
Great job on the track workouts!
those are some great looking tights. nothing like a hot outfit to make you nail the run!
you are so awesome!
Great job Mrs. Dawn! I’m jealously wanting those tights right about now, but since I haven’t been out to run since that 5-miler way back, I can’t really justify it. Soon though, gotta train for the half!
Way to nail the speedwork too!!! New (awesome pants) = amazing run! Keep it up!
I am so happy for you on BOTH fronts!! The pants look SWEET! Just a little jealous..
Also- peace of mind is great- isn’t it?! I am so glad you found something that works with your new schedule better! Have a great day at work tomorrow. Enjoy the track
I love Road Runner Sports!! I pretty much order all my running stuff from them. And these tights look and sound amazing! I think I’ll have to get a pair for myself (thanks for the recommendation!).
Glad you’re feeling so good about your workouts. I think marathon training is so much more bearable when you find a plan that you can stick with — and that doesn’t make you stressed out. I love how you describe that stress (carrying the weight of your unfinished workouts) — such a great description and it’s exactly what I do!! It’s awful. One of my goals for this year is to get better about that, and stick to a schedule I can manage.
Glad you got yourself some nice winter tights – got to keep the leggies warm!
AWESOME 800′s, speedy!!
I AM SO GLAD YOU LOVE YOUR RUNNING TIGHTS!! They are awesome….let’s create a full body suit and go into business together! GREAT RUN GIRL!!
I have a bunch of pairs of Road Runners tights and love them!! Plus they are reasonably priced
i think underarmour may make a full body spandex – probably in two pieces though. killer workout!
Ok, is it just me, but do those compression pants hold EVERYTHING in nice and tight, except for the explosion of the muffin top at the waist line?? My belly takes a dive off the waistband on all those tights. Ugggh!

I love my tights. I know many guys don’t like them but I like the compression on them. I don’t like it when I have to wear loud loose pants!
Ooh, I need pants that go to the ankle (mine are below the knee). Compression rules! By the way… I like your blog… I’m adding it to my ‘roll.
Road Runner sports makes some awesome stuff. Score on the tights. I can’t imagine making it through a winter without decent running tights!
Great job on the 800′s. I’m so glad you’ve found a great balance for your training that leaves you not about to jump off a cliff. Hope it continues to go great for you!
I just read Nellie’s comment. Baaahh! Hope you have a great weekend!
