the price of 15
I ran 15 miles on Sunday. The day after some record setting snow fall in this area. 24 inches at my house. It was COLD. The snow was DEEP.
Luckily it wasn’t as windy as my last 15 miler in the snow. Traction was my biggest issue. I was even wearing my new shoe covers with spikes on the bottom. They were great on the ice…but made little difference in the packed snow. Not sure why my Garmin quit at mile 13…it charged all night. But while it was working my average pace was 8:52.
The entire time I was running I was replaying the 15 miler of death from last summer. The one where I’m pretty sure I experienced some symptoms of heatstroke. Like chills, dizziness, goosebumps. It was scary. Now, while I felt decent during the entire run this time…it was just as mentally challenging to run in the snow as it was to run in the heat.
Any other winter runners out there…do your teeth get cold? This was the first time this has ever happened to me. My teeth were FREEZING. Hands, fine. Legs, great. Teeth? Cold. Very strange.
Then yesterday when I woke up I discovered a little bit of a rasp in my voice. And today…no voice at all. Like gone completely. I can whisper. Squeak a little. It’s pretty awesome. Especially as a teacher. I love trying to get everyone’s attention by holding my hand in the air. Luckily my students took pity on me and behaved like little angels today. I’ve discovered that if I speak in a whisper everyone starts doing it. Its kinda fun. Like we’re working on a top secret project or something.

omg I use that trick all the time! I start whispering and then everyone else starts whispering. Love it. Great job on the 15 miler. Sorry you lost your voice
That’s awesome that you did 15 in snow like that!
You are a rockstar chica!!! I think I might have actually considered the dreadmill with that much snow!
beautiful setting for a run. your lucky day.
Yep, I’ve totally been there…
Take care of yourself. I’ve had a few times where that weather-induced raspiness has turned into a full-on bronchial/chest infection. Definitely not fun.
Sorry you have no voice!!!
Great job on your run! Running in the snow is hard!
Awesome job on the run! I’m impressed you did it with all that snow! (looks beautiful though).
Sorry you lost your voice but it sounds like you’re making the best of it. haha
And my teeth get cold sometimes on runs too! It’s weird. The worst part is coming home and then trying to eat something before they’ve completely warmed up. it hurts my jaw like crazy.
you are AMAZING…now this is will power. Tough to run in snow…I remember those days. Hope you get your voice back girl!
Whoa, major props to you on running in that snow!! Nice! Hope your voice come back soon
Great job running 15 miles in that snow. I don’t think I would have wanted to leave my house. I guess it’s a good thing I live in Texas.
I hope your voice returns quickly!
THIS is hardcore!
Trudging through the snow is sooo tiring and you’re right, it can be just as mentally tough as those hot summer runs. Awesome job getting it done!
Hope you get your voice back soon!!
I have lost my voice from cold runs too. Stupid winter! Nice job getting out there in all the snow!
Hahaha, the whispering this cracks me up
And nice work on the 15 miler!!! (my teeth get cold, too!)
I like your pigtails
I love the pigtails in the pic!!
Great job running 15 in that kind of snow. I’m just getting my “mojo” back for snow running. I’ve been on the treadmill for two months but figure it’s time to suck it up.
I have the Yak-Traks for my shoes which are ok but recently bought some IceBugs. Great! They have the spikes for all terrain running right in the sole fo the shoe. Love them even though they’re kind of heavy.
Good luck on that on coming cold. Home it doesn’t get too bad.
Hope you are ok now
Sorry about the rasp…
That is SOME snow!!!
I have a new blog home- hope you recognize me!
