long weekend!!!
I don’t understand how people do intervals on treadmills. I was terrified all day. I even drove around several different routes looking for some snow-free running areas so that I would be able to escape running fast on my speed-sucking friend the ‘mill. Unfortunately all of our roads are covered in packed snow. Lame!
Meanwhile I then rocked my intervals. I toughened up and faced the workout with as much mental stamina as I could scrape together on a Friday afternoon. It was hard, but I feel pretty awesome. Not because I did anything especially great, more because I did it at ALL.
Because I have the coolest job ever, I thought I’d share a sneak peek into my world of high school mathematics. Here’s my assignment board for Calculus/Statistics:
And here’s the one in my other room:
Pretty epic huh? At least that’s what all the “kids” say. And NO, I did not do the artwork myself. That is done by one of my amazing student workers. She grades my calculus papers AND has that kind of artistic talent.
As you can see from the boards, we have NO SCHOOL on Monday! I’m super excited about it. This weekend I get to go wedding dress shopping with one of my best friends!!!!! So exciting! My other big plans include cleaning out my clothes and deciding which clothes to donate and which I should take to a tailor.
Anyone else have Monday off?
What are you doing this weekend?
Most importantly…what theme should we do on the boards next quarter? We were thinking Dinosaurs…

I love my intervals on the treadmill, because I can set exactly the pace I want to go and not slow down when I get tired.
Love the white boards!!
We all have Monday off in my house, yay
Nolan has two b-day parties, one is at a hotel pool, should be interesting?
Hmmm I wish I could help with the boards, but I can’t think right now. Dinosaurs sound like a good bet
My husband and I both have Monday off–super excited!! I love that a three-day weekend actually feels like a weekend!
I’m never able to do intervals/speed work outside during the winter either because of snow/ice covered roads. It bums me out!
Nope, have to work
Dude, math was my worse subject in school…can’t believe you teach it!! Especially Calc…ugh!
Sadly, I work on Monday. Damn job. Ill probably work a fair amount this weekend too.
I wish you had been my math teacher–I bet you would have been able to engage me in learning!
I like intervals on the treadmill. I feel like I am flyin’, haha. Wish I had monday off. Enjoy yours, much needed I am sure.
Yea for state jobs! No work! (I just found out today) those boards are AWESOME! Packman would be fun.
P.s. I just moved into a new office and I’m looking for some awesome nerdy math posters. If you see any on the way out, or have a good suggestion for a place to find fun ones please let me know
Nice board work!! Theme = Candyland? The board game or just a bunch of candies!
I am SO thankful for a 3 day weekend. I’m skoked!
Don’t snowy/icy roads kill your training?! I try to set and incline 1-2% and then play with speed for intervals, but nothing beats running on the road!
My hubby has Monday off, so do my kids, and yes, I guess I do too!
We are going to the beach…the oregon coast is gorgeous but cold but we will be in our friend’s beach house right off the beach. yay! I loved intervals on the TM! What intervals did you do? And I love seeing your boards at school!!
I love the boards
My husband teaches high school history and I teach college history, so we both have off. Thank goodness for the academic life!
I actually prefer TM intervals to track intervals… The track always intimidates me far more – I’m not sure why.
Glad you felt good about your intervals! I have to do almost all of mine on the treadmill in the winter. I can’t stand staring at my Garmin and the track is covered in about 7 feet of snow!
You seem like such a passionate teacher! Your students are so lucky to have you!! We have no school on Monday too! I’m excited for hopefully a relaxing day with the kids!
Have a blast wedding dress shopping:)
LOVE the super mario brothers! and glad to hear you rocked those intervals!
Congrats on the intervals!! I don’t know how I would do on a treadmill where the pace changes on it’s own either. Intervals are tough as it is without having that extra thing to worry about. But congrats on rocking it!
Hopefully next time it won’t feel so tough (mentally).
I love those assignment boards! Wish I had that kind of talent. Enjoy your 3-day weekend!
Intervals on the treadmill are the only way to go. It’s just so easy to set the pace. Once you get used to it, the treadmill doesn’t seem so threatening.
Lucky you – off Monday! Wish, I wish, I wish.
Maybe the board theme should be something to do with getting along together and peace, etc. since Monday is Martin Luther Kind Day.
Yea! We have Monday off too, so excited!
YOU ARE THE COOLEST TEACHER EVER!!! Can you please come decorate my classroom? i want to take your class. Three day weekend….one of the many reasons to be a teacher. I am crazy and I kind of like tempo runs on the treadmill!! So GLAD you got the new Britney song! Remember how we get to meet in like just a few months?!?!
I have Monday off and I’m sooooo happy!! I just got out of work today so I am off until Tuesday morning! I am taking my favorite boy (my 1 yr old nephew) out on a date tonight. We’re going to Panera then maybe to pick out a toy or book at the store. Next semester I vote “destinations.” Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, etc.
Okay… I’m jealous again! Beautiful homework boards!
I have a student aide and she is lovely. Unfortunately for me, her talent is in baking. She bakes the most delish cookies, and she always brings me some… and I eat them all.
All I can say is thank goodness I run.
For next semester, I like dinosaurs. Way cute. (Storybooks could be cute, too. You could have Jack and the Beanstalk, Humpty Dumpty, the cow jumping over the moon… sorry, I’m an English teacher, but all I get to read lately are children’s books. lol.)
I’m off this Monday as well. Unfortunately, I will be working part of it.
I think it would be easier to do intervals on a treadmill because you can just set a speed and force yourself, but I haven’t been on a treadmill in probably an entire year, so I’m not sure!
You have a talented Student Aide!! Put that person to full use! =D haha. The board is so pretty!!!!
I have never tried a real speed/interval workout on the TM. Mi9ne’s too hard to read. I hope it went well for you.
hey! found your blog through hungryrunnergirl and saw that you’re trying the 3-days a week running plan. how are you liking it? i’m trying to revamp my workout schedule, since i’m starting medical residency in july and will have basically zilch time for workouts. one long run a week with shorter harder workouts sounds fabulous!
ok wow this is freaky! i went to your about page and if i’m deducing correctly your running bff is andi rettger who graduated from andrews and loma linda a year ahead of me!
yes i go to LLU and i am actually fROM kettering ohio. my dad works at kettering hospital. what a SMALL SMALL world!
I am so glad you made wraps….it is so nice to just prepare them all at once and then just grab them on the way out. I just want to go for a run with you and then go watch the bachelor together…..that would be amazing!
I LOVE that you said running helps you be less selfish in all of the other areas of your life!!! SO SO TRUE!!! Ah, I love the way you think:)
